Subject: | Establisment of a commission to study the needs of Cheyney University of Pennsylvania |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution which would direct the General Assembly to establish a commission to study the academic and financial needs of Cheyney University of Pennsylvania and make recommendations. Cheyney University has a long and rich history in Pennsylvania as an institution of academic excellence for students of diverse backgrounds. It was founded in 1837 as the first institution of higher learning for African Americans. Today, it is part of the State System of Higher Education. Currently, it faces academic and financial challenges which may call into question its future as an institution of higher learning. This commission would provide a short and a long term solution for the challenges facing Cheyney University. Please join me in sponsoring this resolution. |
