Subject: | State Police Officers Retirement Credit (Prior HB 2117 of 2012) |
In the near future, we plan to re-introduce legislation that proposes to allow State Police officers to purchase up to five years of retirement credit for prior service as a municipal police officer in this Commonwealth. There are many State Police officers who bring valuable local police experience to the job. We believe that this legislation will further encourage this transfer of skills by enhancing pension portability for our law enforcement officers. This bill will amend the State Employees’ Retirement Code to allow State Police officers to “buy back” prior municipal police service and to credit that service toward their retirement benefits. Under current law, members of the State Employees’ Retirement System are authorized to purchase retirement credit for the following types of non-state service:
