A RESOLUTION
Designating the week of November 12 through 18, 2023, as
"Kindness Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Since 1988, "World Kindness Day" has been celebrated
across the globe on November 13; and
WHEREAS, The World Kindness Movement established this day to
promote kindness worldwide, to demonstrate the positive impacts
of large and small acts of kindness and to encourage harmony
among people; and
WHEREAS, Random acts of kindness to strangers, including
paying-it-forward at drive throughs or letting a car go in front
of you to merge into traffic, are simple ways that can be
meaningful to individuals; and
WHEREAS, Science has shown that kindness can be contagious;
and
WHEREAS, When bystanders witness acts of kindness they are
more likely to perform their own acts of kindness; and
WHEREAS, When individuals start making an effort to do small

acts of kindness it becomes a habit, which improves communities
and makes others feel valued; and
WHEREAS, Kindness does not have to cost anything and even a
compliment or texting a friend can brighten someone's day; and
WHEREAS, Other ways to show kindness include putting a sign
in your yard telling people things get better, volunteering in
your community, cooking a meal for a neighbor, picking up litter
or writing a thank you note to express your appreciation to
another person; and
WHEREAS, In celebration of how even small acts of kindness
can impact individuals, Pennsylvanians are encouraged to perform
at least one act of kindness each day during "Kindness Week";
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
week of November 12 through 18, 2023, as "Kindness Week" in
Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives encourage
everyone to start being kind to one another for one week and
observe how the sense of community can be strengthened by doing
a few simple things each day.
