A RESOLUTION
Designating October 6, 2023, as "College Radio Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Amateur radio operators, including those at college
stations across the nation, are renowned for their sense of
community, promotion of technology to the next generation and
commitment to volunteerism and public service; and
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives commends Neumann
University's Channel 98.5 WNUW on its efforts to raise awareness
of college radio by encouraging new listeners to join and
sharing great live music and unique programming; and
WHEREAS, This year marks the 10th anniversary of Neumann
University's Channel 98.5 WNUW's participation in "College Radio
Day" and this year's theme is "Where All Voices Are Welcome";
and
WHEREAS, Each year, hundreds of student radio stations join
together with the aim of harnessing the combined listenership of
hundreds of thousands of college radio listeners throughout the

world and to celebrate the importance of the medium that is
college radio; and
WHEREAS, This medium unites universities and their
surrounding communities through not only shared broadcast, but
by bringing forth social awareness, presenting an outlet for
freedom of expression and fostering and promoting shared values;
and
WHEREAS, College radio is one of the few mediums left in our
society that consistently plays unsigned and independent
artists, aiding in their rise to success and fostering a vibrant
local music scene; and
WHEREAS, Lifelong careers are recognized through this medium,
bringing skilled and passionate professionals into the broadcast
media workforce; and
WHEREAS, Businesses of all sizes have a mutually beneficial
partnership with college radio stations through sponsorship
opportunities and community awareness strategies; and
WHEREAS, This medium prepares students for successful
citizenship through charity work, raising public awareness and
emergency preparedness practices; and
WHEREAS, In station, on-air, online and in person, college
radio strives to foster an environment of respect, tolerance and
professionalism; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate October
6, 2023, as "College Radio Day" in Pennsylvania.
