more than $35 million this past year to support the efforts of
more than 1,400 nonprofit organizations, schools and community
groups, providing grants which leveraged more than $14 million
in outside resources from businesses, foundations, public
agencies and other sources, strengthening community impact and
increasing the return on taxpayer dollars; and
WHEREAS, AmeriCorps members nationwide, in return for their
service, have earned more than $4 billion in Segal AmeriCorps
Education Awards to use to further their own educational
advancement at colleges and universities, including $189 million
that have been awarded to residents of this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, After their terms of service end, AmeriCorps members
remain engaged in our communities as volunteers, teachers,
public servants and nonprofit leaders at disproportionately high
levels; and
WHEREAS, "AmeriCorps Week" is an opportune time for the
residents of this Commonwealth to salute AmeriCorps members and
AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers of the past and present for their
powerful impact and to thank all AmeriCorps community partners
in this Commonwealth who make the program possible and bring
more Americans into service; therefore be it
RESOLVED (the Senate concurring), That the General Assembly
designate the week of March 12 through 18, 2023, as "AmeriCorps
Week" in Pennsylvania and express appreciation for AmeriCorps
members and AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers across this
Commonwealth; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the General Assembly urge all residents of
this Commonwealth to thank AmeriCorps members and AmeriCorps
Seniors volunteers of the past and present for their service to
our communities.
