AN ACT
Designating a portion of Pennsylvania Route 31 from Strikertown
Road to Renaissance Lane in South Huntingdon Township,
Westmoreland County, as the John Michael Beyrand Memorial
Highway.
The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. John Michael Beyrand Memorial Highway.
(a) Findings.--The General Assembly finds and declares as
follows:
(1) Specialist John Michael Beyrand was born on November
11, 1945.
(2) Specialist Beyrand graduated from South Huntington
High School in 1963 and attended California University of
Pennsylvania.
(3) Specialist Beyrand served in the 1st Calvary
Division of the 11th Combat Aviation Brigade of the U.S.
Army's 229th Aviation Battalion.
(4) Specialist Beyrand was killed in action on August 9,

1967, in the Song Re Valley, Quang Ngai Providence, Republic
of Vietnam.
(5) Specialist Beynard was posthumously awarded the
Purple Heart, Military Merit Medal, Gallantry Cross with
Palm, Air Medal with first through seventh Oak Leaf Clusters
and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
(b) Designation.--The portion of Pennsylvania Route 31 from
Strikertown Road to Renaissance Lane in South Huntingdon
Township, Westmoreland County, is designated as the John Michael
Beyrand Memorial Highway.
(c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and
maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the highway to
traffic in both directions on the highway.
Section 2. Effective date.
This act shall take effect in 60 days.
