A RESOLUTION
Recognizing May 25, 2020, as "National Missing Children's Day"
in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, On May 25, 1979, 6-year-old Etan Patz vanished from
a New York City street on his way to his school bus, and two
years later, 6-year-old Adam Walsh was kidnapped from a mall in
Hollywood, Florida; and
WHEREAS, These and other cases brought national awareness to
the lack of coordination and communication between law
enforcement in missing children cases; and
WHEREAS, The Missing Children Act, signed into law by the
President of the United States in 1982, required entry of
missing children data into the FBI's National Crime Information
Center database; and
WHEREAS, The National Center for Missing and Exploited
Children was created in 1984 to assist the Department of Justice

to help law enforcement find missing children, eliminate child
sexual exploitation and prevent child victimization; and
WHEREAS, The National Center for Missing and Exploited
Children has assisted law enforcement in the recovery of 311,000
missing children; and
WHEREAS, In 2019, the National Center for Missing and
Exploited Children assisted law enforcement and families with
more than 29,000 cases of missing children; and
WHEREAS, In 1983, the President of the United States
proclaimed the May 25 anniversary of Etan Patz's disappearance
as "National Missing Children's Day"; and
WHEREAS, "National Missing Children's Day" is dedicated to
encouraging parents, guardians, caregivers and others concerned
with the well-being of children to make child safety a priority,
and by reminding parents, guardians, families and communities
that every child deserves a safe childhood; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize May 25,
2020, as "National Missing Children's Day" in Pennsylvania.
