A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the week of May 11 through 17, 2020, as "Stuttering
Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The National Stuttering Association celebrates
"National Stuttering Awareness Week" in May to celebrate,
educate and spread knowledge about stuttering; and
WHEREAS, Stuttering is a speech disorder that is neurological
and physiological in nature and is not an emotional or
psychological problem; and
WHEREAS, Stuttering is a complex disorder that touches the
lives of 70 million individuals around the world, 3 million in
the United States alone; and
WHEREAS, Approximately 1 in 30 children stutter at some point
in their life and at least one-quarter of children who stutter
do not outgrow the disorder; and
WHEREAS, Children who stutter are often teased and may
experience shame, guilt and fear of speaking situations; and
