A RESOLUTION
Recognizing October 25, 2018, as "Lights On Afterschool Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, More than 28 million children in the United States
have parents who work outside the home, and more than 11.3
million children are left unsupervised after school between the
hours of 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.; and
WHEREAS, Afterschool programs support working families and
provide businesses with increased worker productivity; and
WHEREAS, Eighteen percent of families depend on afterschool
programs to provide a safe environment after the school day
ends; and
WHEREAS, A 2016 PEAR Institute and iMMAP study found that
high-quality afterschool programs provide for increased
identity, understanding and critical thinking skills through
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)
activities; and
WHEREAS, The demand for afterschool programs is higher among
