A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the week of May 20 through 26, 2018, as "National
Federation of Independent Business Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Small businesses are the backbone of the economy and
create a vast array of goods, services and jobs throughout the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and across America; and
WHEREAS, The laws of the United States recognize that
encouraging and developing the capacity of small businesses is
essential to the free-market competition upon which the economic
well-being and security of the nation depend; and
WHEREAS, On May 20, 1943, the National Federation of Small
Business was created to represent the interests of thousands of
small businesses; and
WHEREAS, On April 4, 1949, the National Federation of
Independent Business succeeded the National Federation of Small
Business; and
WHEREAS, The National Federation of Independent Business has

expanded to represent hundreds of thousands of small and
independent businesses, including many in the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania, and has advanced the ability of those businesses
to own, operate and grow their enterprises; and
WHEREAS, The National Federation of Independent Business
ensures that the Federal Government and the 50 states hear the
voice of small business as they formulate public policies; and
WHEREAS, The small and independent businesses and the people
of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania have benefited from the work
of the National Federation of Independent Business for three-
quarters of a century; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
recognize the week of May 20 through 26, 2018, as "National
Federation of Independent Business Week" in Pennsylvania; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
acknowledge the critical role of small and independent
businesses as a pillar of our democracy, congratulate the
National Federation of Independent Business upon the celebration
of "National Federation of Independent Business Week" and
commend the federation for its role in encouraging and
supporting small and independent businesses; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
the National Federation of Independent Business.
