A RESOLUTION
Designating May 23, 2017, as "Teacher Education Day" in
Pennsylvania and recognizing the outstanding service of
teacher educators who prepare teachers for this
Commonwealth's classrooms.
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania has a long history and tradition of
producing teachers of the highest quality with the help and
guidance of the dedicated teacher educators who prepare,
supervise, observe and evaluate them; and
WHEREAS, Many teacher educators across this Commonwealth have
dedicated their professional lives to preparing the best
teachers for Pennsylvania's elementary and secondary students;
and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania has more than 90 colleges and
universities that offer teacher education programs approved by
the Department of Education; and
WHEREAS, Teacher education students in Pennsylvania are
exposed to a multitude of instructional opportunities during
their preparation programs, including working with children from
diverse backgrounds and observing talented educators currently

teaching in classrooms; and
WHEREAS, Since 1981, the Pennsylvania Association of Colleges
and Teacher Educators (PAC-TE) has served as a voice for
professional educator preparation programs and has worked to
produce and support high-quality teachers for the students,
families and communities of Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, PAC-TE is currently comprised of 83 member
institutions, 338 institutional representatives and 114
additional individual members; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate designate May 23, 2017, as "Teacher
Education Day" in Pennsylvania and recognize the outstanding
service of teacher educators who prepare teachers for this
Commonwealth's classrooms.
