INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED, MAY 8, 2017
A RESOLUTION
Designating the week of May 6 through 12, 2017, as "Nurses Week"
in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, "National Nurses Week" begins May 6 and ends May 12
each year, in conjunction with Florence Nightingale's birthday;
and
WHEREAS, This Commonwealth has more than 217,000 registered
nurses, including approximately 51,000 licensed practical nurses
and more than 15,500 advanced practice registered nurses, which
statistics make nursing the largest licensed health care
profession in this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State Nurses Association (PSNA) is
the Statewide association representing the interests of
professional registered nurses; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1903, PSNA has been essential in
advocating, leading, educating and connecting nurses to improve
health for patients in this Commonwealth for more than 114

years; and
WHEREAS, PSNA is working diligently to create a healthier
Commonwealth that relies on increasing the delivery of nursing
care through primary and preventive health care; and
WHEREAS, The care provided by the nurses of this Commonwealth
is the primary component of a successful health care delivery
system in this Commonwealth; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the week of May 6 through
12, 2017, as "Nurses Week" in Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Senate join PSNA and other nursing
organizations in recognizing the selfless service of
Pennsylvania's nurses and the overall importance of quality
nursing care.
