A RESOLUTION
Mourning the loss of Albert R. Boscov and extending heartfelt
condolences to his wife and family.
WHEREAS, Albert R. Boscov was born on September 22, 1929, the
son of Solomon and Ethel Boscov; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Boscov's life epitomized the American dream; and
WHEREAS, Taught by his parents the value of a hard day's work
and a good education, Mr. Boscov graduated from Reading High
School and Drexel University; and
WHEREAS, After serving our country with distinction in the
United States Navy during the Korean Conflict, Mr. Boscov
returned to Reading to join the family business; and
WHEREAS, With creative flair, relentless drive and a special
knack for retail, Mr. Boscov helped build Boscov's Department
Stores into the largest family-owned department store chain in
America; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Boscov's formula for success was simple: place
people first--customers are friends and coworkers are family;
and
WHEREAS, Generous, thoughtful and caring, Mr. Boscov made it
his mission to help those in need, promote tolerance and
understanding and champion worthy causes; and
WHEREAS, Whether it was helping realize the dream of home
ownership in Reading, revitalizing downtown Wilkes-Barre or
fostering the growth of the arts across this Commonwealth, Mr.
Boscov's philanthropy and generosity were legendary, his energy
and enthusiasm were contagious and his impact and imprint are
indelible; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Boscov's legacy as a counselor and confidant to
governors and elected officials of both parties and a visionary
with the unique ability to see an idea through from start to
finish spans generations and inspires others to do great things
for their communities; and
WHEREAS, Devoted husband, loving father, beloved grandfather,
loyal friend, business icon, generous philanthropist and
tireless community advocate are fitting descriptions of and apt
tributes to the life of Mr. Boscov, who gave so much of himself
to benefit others; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate mourn the loss of Albert R. Boscov;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Senate extend heartfelt condolences to his
wife, Eunice, and the entire Boscov family; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
the Boscov family in care of Eunice Boscov.
