AN ACT
Amending Title 42 (Judiciary and Judicial Procedure) of the
Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, in actions against local
parties, further providing for limitations on damages.
The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. Section 8553(b) of Title 42 of the Pennsylvania
Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
ยง 8553. Limitations on damages.

(b) Amounts recoverable.--
(1) Damages arising from the same cause of action or
transaction or occurrence or series of causes of action or
transactions or occurrences shall not exceed [$500,000]
$2,000,000 in the aggregate.
(2) The limitation on the amount of damages under
paragraph (1) shall be adjusted annually by the
Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts to account for
inflation based on the Consumer Price Index published by the
United States Department of Labor. The Administrative Office

of Pennsylvania Courts shall publish the adjustment as a
notice in the Pennsylvania Bulletin.

Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
