A RESOLUTION
Recognizing September 29, 2018, as "Pick Up the Poconos Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, An official countywide litter pickup day, "Pick Up
the Poconos Day" is scheduled for September 29, 2018; and
WHEREAS, "Pick Up the Poconos Day" is organized by the Pocono
Mountains Visitors Bureau, along with Monroe 2030, the Monroe
County Commissioners and the Monroe County Council of
Governments; and
WHEREAS, "Pick Up the Poconos Day" is named after the
campaign "Pick Up the Poconos," undertaken by the Pocono
Mountains Visitors Bureau this past spring; and
WHEREAS, The campaign is designed to shine a light on the
litter and pollution of the beautiful, natural area of the
Poconos; and
WHEREAS, With 2,400 square miles encompassing Pennsylvania's
Wayne, Pike, Monroe and Carbon counties, the Pocono Mountains

region is home to rolling mountain terrain, breathtakingly
beautiful waterfalls, thriving woodlands and 170 miles of
winding rivers; and
WHEREAS, Efforts by individuals and community organizations,
including the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau, clean-up crews,
community leaders, local waste disposal organizations and more,
to reduce litter are deserving of recognition; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize
September 29, 2018, as "Pick Up the Poconos Day" in Pennsylvania
and encourage communities across this Commonwealth to coordinate
countywide or regional litter pickup events and activities to
keep Pennsylvania clean and beautiful.
