A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Mt.
Lebanon Fire Department and honoring the department on this
momentous and important occasion.
WHEREAS, The Mt. Lebanon Fire Department (MLFD) was
originally formed as a volunteer fire department on June 1,
1918, when a special committee reported to the Mt. Lebanon
Commission, verbally advising the commission of proposed plans
for the organization of a volunteer fire department; and
WHEREAS, The department was reorganized as the MLFD on
February 9, 1920, at the request of the Mt. Lebanon Commission,
and the volunteer department was officially chartered by the
Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County on May 20, 1939; and
WHEREAS, The MLFD has become a premier provider of fire and
emergency services; and
WHEREAS, The MLFD consists of 17 full-time staff and
approximately 50 volunteers; and
WHEREAS, The MLFD is one of only two fire departments in this

Commonwealth that are currently accredited by the Commission on
Fire Accreditation International, which affirms the high
standards and best management practices of the MLFD; and
WHEREAS, The MLFD continues to be one of approximately 200
fire departments nationally to have obtained a Class 1 Insurance
Services Office Public Protection Classification; and
WHEREAS, Responding to an average of 2,000 calls for help
each year, the MLFD is extremely well respected for its services
inside and outside Mt. Lebanon; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
100th anniversary of the formation of the Mt. Lebanon Fire
Department and honor the department on this momentous and
important occasion; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the men and
women who built the Mt. Lebanon Fire Department and who continue
to serve; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the Mt.
Lebanon community as a whole for the steadfast support of
developing and maintaining such a high-level fire department
over the past 100 years.
