A RESOLUTION
Designating the week of September 10 through 16, 2017, as
"Direct Support Professionals Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Direct support professionals and support
coordinators are people who help individuals with intellectual
disabilities to have real choices, to work, live and socialize
in their communities, to realize their dreams, to transform
their lives and to be included in the everyday lives of their
communities; and
WHEREAS, Direct support professionals and support
coordinators are staff who work directly with consumers in
residential, day and employment services and support programs;
and
WHEREAS, Direct support professionals and support
coordinators support thousands of individuals across this
Commonwealth and inspire us with their ability to work with

individuals with intellectual disabilities and assist them with
securing meaningful jobs, finding appropriate housing
arrangements, learning to navigate public transportation systems
and engaging in social activities throughout their communities;
and
WHEREAS, Direct support professionals and support
coordinators are deserving of special recognition; therefore be
it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
week of September 10 through 16, 2017, as "Direct Support
Professionals Week" in Pennsylvania.
