A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life and achievements of Alvin C. Bush and
expressing condolences on his passing.
WHEREAS, On February 8, 2017, Alvin C. Bush died at 93 years
of age in Williamsport, Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, On January 22, 1924, Mr. Bush was born in
Philipsburg, Pennsylvania, to United States Congressman Alvin
Ray Bush and Lucinda Mattern Bush; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bush was a member of the Williamsport High Class
of 1941 and graduated from the University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bush's education was interrupted by service to
his nation as a Lieutenant Gunnery, Navigation and Executive
Officer on the Landing Ship Tank (LST 025) in numerous naval
engagements all over the Pacific Theater; and
WHEREAS, After settling in Muncy Township, Mr. Bush followed
his father as General Manager of Williamsport Transportation

Company and later founded three automotive dealerships; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bush also operated his parents' dairy and crop
farm, Wyno Farms in Muncy Township, and was a five-term
President of Pennsylvania Guernsey Breeders' Association; and
WHEREAS, First elected to the House of Representatives in
1960 in the 84th District, Mr. Bush held leadership positions in
the House of Representatives, Legislative Reference Bureau,
Senate staff and Bill Scranton's 1964 Presidential Campaign; and
WHEREAS, As a conservative conservationist, Alvin C. Bush was
proud to represent most of Lycoming County from 1961 to 1970 and
from 1985 until 1994; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bush supervised staff toward converting
Pennsylvania to an elected Attorney General, establishing the
Independent Crime Commission and Statewide grand juries; and
WHEREAS, At the end of his public service, Mr. Bush directed
the Independent Regulatory Review Commission; and
WHEREAS, The epitome of Mr. Bush's career was passing the
legislation which established the Pennsylvania College of
Technology, where he served as Chairman of the Board for ten
years; and
WHEREAS, After retirement, Mr. Bush turned his passion for
farming into landscaping an old spring-sodden farm near
Brookside, Pennsylvania, and planning the rebirth of the family
home, The Bush House, as a site to gather and celebrate;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the life
and achievements of Alvin C. Bush and extend condolences to his
family, friends and admirers; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
the family of Alvin C. Bush.
