A RESOLUTION
Recognizing May 25, 2017, as "National Missing Children's Day"
in Pennsylvania and urging participation in child protection.
WHEREAS, Between 1979 and 1981, a series of high-profile
missing children cases and 29 murders of children and young
adults in Atlanta and Georgia brought attention to the lack of
coordinated efforts among Federal, state and local law
enforcement to search for missing children; and
WHEREAS, In 1982, the Missing Children Act (Public Law 97-
292, 96 Stat. 1259) was enacted, allowing information on missing
children to be entered into the Federal Bureau of
Investigation's National Crime Information Center; and
WHEREAS, In 1984, the National Center for Missing and
Exploited Children (NCMEC) was created; and
WHEREAS, The NCMEC partners with the United States Department
