A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the month of May 2017 as "Ichthyosis Month" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Ichthyosis is a family of genetic skin disorders
characterized by dry, scaling skin that may be thickened or very
thin; and
WHEREAS, Ichthyosis affects individuals regardless of age,
race or gender; and
WHEREAS, Each year, more than 16,000 babies are born with
some form of ichthyosis; and
WHEREAS, Ichthyosis can present medical complications,
including dehydration, infections, chronic blistering,
overheating and rapid calorie loss; and
WHEREAS, The Foundation for Ichthyosis and Related Skin
Types, Inc., is sponsoring the IAM Worldwide campaign featuring
affected individuals; and
WHEREAS, The ichthyosis awareness campaign runs throughout
the month of May and carries the message, "Be a part of the

worldwide effort"; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives encourage the
residents of this Commonwealth to support the mission of
educating, inspiring, connecting and promoting the inclusion of
all individuals affected with ichthyosis and related skin
disorders; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
month of May 2017 as "Ichthyosis Month" in Pennsylvania.
