A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the week of May 7 through 13, 2017, as "Women's Lung
Health Week" in Pennsylvania to encourage all residents of
this Commonwealth to learn more about the detection and
treatment of lung cancer.
WHEREAS, According to the American Lung Association, every
five minutes a woman in the United States learns she has lung
cancer; and
WHEREAS, More than half of all people diagnosed with lung
cancer will die within one year of their diagnosis; and
WHEREAS, While the lung cancer death rate among men has
decreased 32% in the last 39 years, it has increased 94% among
women; and
WHEREAS, Lung cancer is the number one cancer killer of women
and men in the United States; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is the fifth leading state in the
United States in the incidence of lung cancer; and
