A RESOLUTION
Commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Urban League of
Philadelphia.
WHEREAS, Since 1917, the Urban League of Philadelphia has
worked on behalf of African Americans to end racial
discrimination in the United States; and
WHEREAS, The mission of the Urban League movement is to
enable African Americans to secure economic self-reliance,
parity, power and civil rights; and
WHEREAS, The mission of the Urban League of Philadelphia is
defined by advocacy and policy, business and talent diversity
and community and economic development; and
WHEREAS, The Urban League of Philadelphia is an affiliate of
the National Urban League, the nation's oldest and largest
community-based movement devoted to empowering African Americans
to enter the economic and social mainstream; and
WHEREAS, The Urban League of Philadelphia has a dynamic board

of directors who provide leadership and guidance, talented staff
members who offer knowledge and training and dedicated
volunteers who spread empowerment in the community; and
WHEREAS, The Urban League Guild was founded in 1958 as an
affiliate of the Urban League of Philadelphia to engage in
community service and fundraising for the Urban League of
Philadelphia; and
WHEREAS, At the 2014 National Urban League Conference, the
Urban League Guild of Philadelphia was awarded first place for
raising the largest affiliate contribution in the eastern region
and for their level of community service; and
WHEREAS, The Urban League Guild currently provides clothing
to a transitional shelter for women and children, awards two
scholarships a year to high school students, volunteers for the
Urban League of Philadelphia and participates each year in a
health initiative; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commemorate the
100th anniversary of the Urban League of Philadelphia.
