A RESOLUTION
Designating April 5, 2017, as "Boys and Girls Clubs Youth of the
Year Day" in Pennsylvania in recognition of the role Boys and
Girls Clubs of America has played in the nation and in this
Commonwealth.
WHEREAS, Since 1906, the Boys and Girls Clubs of America have
touched the lives of millions of children and teens through
membership and community outreach; and
WHEREAS, The Boys and Girls Clubs of America have more than
4,000 club locations in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the
Virgin Islands, plus domestic and international military bases;
and
WHEREAS, This Commonwealth is home to 17 independent Boys and
Girls Clubs of America organizations operating in 75
neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, The Boys and Girls Clubs of America serve more than
56,000 children across this Commonwealth from 6 to 18 years of

age; and
WHEREAS, The Boys and Girls Clubs of America have helped, and
continue to help, hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvania's youths
avoid drugs and gangs, earn better grades, stay fit, prepare for
careers, learn confidence and responsibility and develop
leadership, communication and teamwork skills; and
WHEREAS, Started in 1947, "Youth of the Year Day" honors
members representing each of the 17 clubs across this
Commonwealth for their outstanding service to their clubs and
their communities; and
WHEREAS, On "Youth of the Year Day," one club member is
chosen by a diverse panel of community leaders among this elite
group of children and young adults to be named "Youth of the
Year"; and
WHEREAS, In 2017, we honor the following 14 youths who have
made an indelible impression on their local clubs and
communities:

Genesis Velazques, Boys and Girls Club of Bethlehem
Marcus Watts, Boys and Girls Club of Chester
Lavonte Douse, Boys and Girls Club of Easton
Zaria Carter, Boys and Girls Club of Harrisburg
Nathaniel S. Housseal, Boys and Girls Club of Lancaster
Mone'e Williams Patrick, Boys and Girls Club of Philadelphia
Ionie Virginia Banner, Boys and Girls Club of Western
Pennsylvania
Logan Stafford, Boys and Girls Club - Caring People Alliance
in Philadelphia
Gregory M. Gilrain, North Penn Valley Boys and Girls Club
Julian Smith, Olivet Boys and Girls Club of Reading and Berks

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate April
5, 2017, as "Boys and Girls Clubs Youth of the Year Day" in
Pennsylvania in recognition of the role Boys and Girls Clubs of
America has played in the nation and in this Commonwealth.
