AN ACT
Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
Statutes, in other required equipment, providing for cameras
on school buses pilot program.
The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. Title 75 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
Statutes is amended by adding a section to read:
ยง 4554. Cameras on school buses pilot program.
The department shall:
(1) Establish and administer a pilot program to place
cameras on the outside of school buses to study the
prevalence of motorists overtaking school buses that are
stopped with red lights flashing, as proscribed in section
3345 (relating to meeting or overtaking school bus).
(2) Select a rural, suburban and urban school district
for the pilot program.
(3) Take any action necessary to facilitate the
gathering and analyzing of information developed by the pilot

program, including choosing the type of camera to use for the
study.
(4) Report its recommendations based on the study and a
cost-benefit analysis of the program to the General Assembly.
Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
