A RESOLUTION
Designating May 17, 2016, as "Delta Sigma Theta Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, In 2016, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority celebrated its
103rd anniversary; and
WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta is the largest historically black
sorority in the nation, founded by 22 collegiate women at Howard
University in 1913; and
WHEREAS, The sorority was established for the purpose of
encouraging academic excellence and providing assistance through
established programs in local communities throughout the world;
and
WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta founders created an organization
that has always strived for the advancement not only of an
individual, but of a people, by granting scholarships, offering
support to the underserved, educating and stimulating
participation in the establishment of positive public policy and
aiding local communities through volunteer service; and
