WHEREAS, Earth Day is a day to recognize the actions of those
who aid in creating a safer, cleaner environment around the
world and to contribute whatever help we can offer to those
individuals so that we may all come together for the sake of the
Earth; and
WHEREAS, Carbon dioxide levels are sitting at their highest
point in history and calendar year 2015 had the warmest average
temperature on record and that number continues to rise; and
WHEREAS, The 46th anniversary of Earth Day seeks to
accomplish a simple yet ambitious, five-year project: to plant
7.8 billion trees by the 50th anniversary of Earth Day in order
to absorb excess carbon dioxide properly, to efficiently filter
the air and to allow communities to achieve long-term economic
and environmental sustainability; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
encourage all citizens to observe and participate in Earth Day
this April 22nd; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the residents of this Commonwealth help in any
way possible so that the goal of planting nearly 8 billion trees
may be met or other projects for sustainability be undertaken
for the betterment of our community.
