A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the week of May 15 through 21, 2016, as "National
Police Week" and May 2, 2016, as "Police Officers' Memorial
Day" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Since the beginning of law enforcement within this
Commonwealth, hundreds of police officers have made the ultimate
sacrifice while in the line of duty, including the following
officers who died in 2015: Police Officer Lloyd E. Reed, Jr.,
St. Clair Township Police Department, Patrolman John James
Wilding, Scranton Police Department, Lieutenant Eric Alan
Eslary, Ligonier Township Police Department, Detective Paul John
Koropal, Allegheny County District Attorney's Office and
Sergeant Robert Francis Wilson, III, Philadelphia Police
Department; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Sheryl A. Pierce, South Londonderry Police
Department, passed away in September 2013 as a result of a duty-
related illness; and

WHEREAS, Across the United States, the week of May 15 through
21, 2016, is being recognized as "National Police Week"; and
WHEREAS, The first "National Police Officers' Memorial Day"
was held on May 15, 1982, following a proclamation signed by
President John F. Kennedy on October 1, 1962; and
WHEREAS, The observance has continued to be held annually in
memory of those police officers who have made the ultimate
sacrifice in the line of duty; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate honor the memory of the hundreds of
police officers who have given their lives in the line of duty
in this Commonwealth; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the week of May 15
through 21, 2016, as "National Police Week" and May 2, 2016, as
"Police Officers' Memorial Day" in Pennsylvania.
