A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the month of March 2016 as "Eye Donor Month" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Eye donation allows for restoration of sight to
recipients whose vision has been affected by injury, disease or
infection; and
WHEREAS, Corneal transplant is one of the most frequently
performed human transplant procedures; and
WHEREAS, Since 1961, more than 1.5 million corneal
transplants have been performed in the United States, restoring
sight to men, women and children ranging from 9 days of age to
103 years of age; and
WHEREAS, Corneal transplant operations have a national
success rate of 95%; and
WHEREAS, Eye donation follows the same process as organ
donation, and there are no restrictions on who may donate; and
WHEREAS, There is no substitute for human corneal tissue, and
the transplant process depends upon the selfless act of eye

RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the month of March 2016
as "Eye Donor Month" in Pennsylvania.
