A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the month of April 2016 as "Prevention of Cruelty to
Animals Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Animal welfare in the United States was forever
changed in 1866 when the American Society for the Prevention of
Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) was founded by animal rights activist
Henry Bergh; and
WHEREAS, The ASPCA protects and assists animals in need and
promotes their humane care and treatment; and
WHEREAS, The ASPCA has championed landmark anti-cruelty laws
and worked diligently to ensure their enforcement; and
WHEREAS, The ASPCA also tirelessly supports local communities
in their fight against animal cruelty; and
WHEREAS, The ASPCA celebrates its many victories on behalf of
animals each April; and
WHEREAS, "Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month" will trump
all previous campaigns with promotional events planned
throughout the United States in April 2016; and

WHEREAS, As part of "Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month,"
animal lovers and pets are encouraged to wear orange, the
official ASPCA color; and
WHEREAS, ASPCA supporters can register event plans and find
and share suggestions on how to "Go Orange for Animals" on their
Internet website at www.aspcaapril.org or on their Facebook page
at www.facebook.com/aspca; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the month of April 2016
as "Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month" in Pennsylvania.
