A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of November 2015 as "Adoption Awareness
Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Every year, hundreds of children in Pennsylvania
find themselves in need of a home and a safe and nurturing
environment; and
WHEREAS, The family is the foundation of any society and
children need the permanent love, care and protection of a
family to grow into healthy and productive adults; and
WHEREAS, As of early 2015, there were 1,743 children in this
Commonwealth waiting to be adopted; and
WHEREAS, For children waiting to be adopted in this
Commonwealth, the average length of stay in care is more than
three years; and
WHEREAS, The average age of Pennsylvania's adopted children
is about six years of age, with research showing that for youth
over nine years of age, the likelihood of being adopted drops
