and abstaining from alcohol consumption while operating or
riding an ATV help make this Commonwealth's ATV riding
experience safe and enjoyable; and
WHEREAS, The golden rules of ATV safety include:
(1) always wearing a Department of Transportation-
compliant helmet, goggles, long sleeves, long pants, over-
the-ankle boots and gloves;
(2) never riding on paved roads except to cross when
done safely and permitted by law;
(3) never riding under the influence of alcohol or
drugs;
(4) never carrying a passenger on a single-rider ATV and
never carrying more than one passenger on an ATV specifically
designed for two people;
(5) riding an ATV that is right for your age;
(6) supervising riders younger than 16 years of age;
(7) riding only on designated trails at a safe speed;
and
(8) taking a hands-on ATV RiderCourse and a free online
course offered through the ATV Safety Institute;
and
WHEREAS, The ATV Safety Institute, a nonprofit organization
dedicated to improving the safety of ATV riders, has declared
June 6 through 14, 2015, as "National ATV Safety Week";
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the week of June 6
through 14, 2015, as "All-Terrain Vehicle Safety Week" in
Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Senate urge all residents to join in the
observation of this week by taking an ATV training course,
