A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the month of May 2015 as "Building Safety Month" and
encouraging residents to participate in "Building Safety
Week" from May 3 through May 9, 2015, in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Through our continuing efforts to address the
critical safety issues in the built environment that affect our
residents, regardless of age or occupation, both in everyday
life and in times of natural disaster, we are confident that our
structures are safe and sound; and
WHEREAS, There are vigilant guardians, including building
safety and fire prevention officials, architects, engineers,
builders and others in the construction industry, who work year
round to ensure the safe construction of buildings; and
WHEREAS, These dedicated members of the Pennsylvania
Association of Building Code Officials, the International Code
Council's Pennsylvania State Professional Chapter and the
members of other International Code Council Chapters in this
Commonwealth, including the Lancaster County Code Association,
the Commonwealth Building Officials, the Pennsylvania

Association of Code Officials, the Pennsylvania Association of
Fire Code Officials and PENNBOC Regions I and VI, develop and
implement the highest quality codes to protect Americans in the
buildings where we live, learn, work and play; and
WHEREAS, The international codes, the most widely adopted
building safety, energy and fire prevention codes in the nation,
are published by the International Code Council and adopted in
Pennsylvania by the Uniform Construction Code and are used by
most cities, counties and states in the United States, and these
modern building safety codes also include safeguards to protect
the public from natural disasters, including hurricanes,
snowstorms, tornadoes, wildland fires and earthquakes; and
WHEREAS, "Building Safety Month" is sponsored by the
International Code Council and the Pennsylvania Association of
Building Code Officials, along with all of the other ICC
Chapters in Pennsylvania, to remind the public about the
critical role of our communities' largely unknown guardians of
public safety and our local code officials, who help prevent
countless fires and accidents; and
WHEREAS, The theme "Resilient Communities Start with Building
Codes" encourages all Americans to raise awareness of the
importance of building safety, green and sustainable building,
pool, spa and hot tub safety and new technologies in the
construction industry, and it presents appropriate steps
everyone can take to ensure that the places where we live,
learn, work and play are safe and that countless lives have been
saved due to the implementation of safety codes by State and
local agencies; and
WHEREAS, This year, in observance of "Building Safety Month,"
we ask everyone to consider projects to improve building safety

at home and in the community, and to acknowledge the essential
service provided to all of us by Federal agencies and State and
local building departments in protecting lives and property;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize "Building Safety Month"
and encourage residents to participate in "Building Safety Week"
activities in Pennsylvania.
