A RESOLUTION
Recognizing March 25, 2015, as "National Medal of Honor Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The Medal of Honor is the nation's highest military
honor and has been bestowed upon fewer than 3,500 individuals
since its inception; and
WHEREAS, March 25, 2015, marks the 152nd anniversary of the
presentation of the first Medal of Honor awards to six men by
Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton; and
WHEREAS, The Freedoms Foundation's Medal of Honor Grove in
Schuylkill Township, Chester County, is the nation's oldest
memorial site dedicated to Medal of Honor recipients; and
WHEREAS, The Friends of the Medal of Honor Grove (FMHG), a
nonprofit organization, was created in 2011 to ensure the
permanent maintenance, improvement and enhancement of the Medal
of Honor Grove and continues to fulfill that mission to this
day; and
WHEREAS, FMHG is acknowledging "National Medal of Honor Day"
at the Medal of Honor Grove; and

WHEREAS, It is appropriate to honor the heroic recipients of
the Medal of Honor; and
WHEREAS, "National Medal of Honor Day" focuses the efforts of
national, State and local organizations striving to foster
public appreciation and recognition of Medal of Honor
recipients; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize March 25, 2015, as
"National Medal of Honor Day" in Pennsylvania and call on the
residents of this Commonwealth to observe the day with
appropriate ceremonies and activities.
