A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of October 2016 as "Check Your Health
Insurance Coverage Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Yearly open enrollment periods for commercial health
care plans typically begin in October or November, when
consumers can enroll in a new health insurance plan or renew an
existing plan; and
WHEREAS, Consumers often choose a health care plan based on
whether their provider is in-network, coverage of a particular
prescription and cost-sharing; and
WHEREAS, Consumers expect to have access to the providers,
services and medications that meet their individual medical
needs throughout the plan year; and
WHEREAS, Ensuring that a plan meets a patient's needs is
particularly important for patients with certain chronic
conditions, many of whom have been through years of trial and
error with their physicians to find the therapy that is the most
effective with the least amount of side effects; and

WHEREAS, Cost-sharing associated formulary placement impacts
the financial burden on enrollees, and treatment interruptions
can negatively impact an individual's health; and
WHEREAS, Reminding consumers to review their health insurance
plans in October ensures that their coverage is consistent with
their medical and financial needs; and
WHEREAS, During open enrollment, consumers with inadequate
coverage may select a health care plan that covers the
medications they need at a level they can afford from the
provider they trust; and
WHEREAS, Health insurers throughout this Commonwealth provide
education materials during the month of October to remind
consumers to "Check Your Health Insurance Coverage" before
renewing the plan or enrolling in a new plan; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
month of October 2016 as "Check Your Health Insurance Coverage
Month" in Pennsylvania.
