A RESOLUTION
Designating November 2, 2016, as "Veterans, Record Your
Discharge Day" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, A military release or discharge document is one of
the most important documents veterans receive after their
service to this great country; and
WHEREAS, This Commonwealth has 67 counties, all of which have
a recorder of deeds office or its equivalent; and
WHEREAS, Original military release or discharge documents are
recorded in each county office for the protection, preservation
and reproduction of each release or discharge document; and
WHEREAS, Each release or discharge document serves as a
permanent record and a reminder of the valuable service our
veterans have given to this country; and
WHEREAS, Veterans are often required to provide certified
copies of their release or discharge documents to obtain various

Federal or State benefits for use in the execution of wills and
estate purposes as well as certain employment purposes; and
WHEREAS, Recording these documents helps preserve veterans'
release or discharge histories and further provides copies in
case of loss or damage to an original release or discharge
document; and
WHEREAS, The recorder of deeds office is beneficial to
veterans and their families because the service is free, and the
office assists in the protection against identity theft and
ensures that veterans' release or discharge documents can be
retrieved at a later date quickly and conveniently; therefore be
it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives encourage all
veterans and their families to record veterans' release or
discharge documents with their respective county recorder of
deeds office; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate
November 2, 2016, as "Veterans, Record Your Discharge Day" in
Pennsylvania.
