A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of September 2016 as "Senior Center Month"
in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The Older Americans Act recognizes senior centers as
a vital resource connecting older adults with the system of
home-based and community-based services they need to live safe,
healthy and independent lives; and
WHEREAS, Older adults may enjoy many benefits from their
participation in the social and recreational activities and
enrichment programs offered locally at senior centers; and
WHEREAS, Meals, transportation, access to a job or volunteer
opportunity and financial counseling may be coordinated through
senior centers; and
WHEREAS, Senior center participants, including older
residents of this Commonwealth, professionally trained staff
members and volunteers, commit their energies to providing a

safe and productive environment at senior centers; and
WHEREAS, The Department of Aging has designated certain
senior centers in this Commonwealth as recipients of
Pennsylvania State Lottery grants for modernizing facilities,
instituting technology improvements, enhancing programming,
attracting new members and further addressing the needs of older
adults; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
month of September 2016 as "Senior Center Month" in
Pennsylvania.
