A RESOLUTION
Designating May 23, 2016, as "Rosie the Riveter Day" in
Pennsylvania and honoring the service and contributions of
the millions of women who entered the work force during World
War II.
WHEREAS, During World War II, 16 million American men left
their jobs in order to fight the Axis powers around the world;
and
WHEREAS, Millions of vacant jobs were filled by women who
traditionally did not work in the manufacturing sector; and
WHEREAS, In an effort to recruit these women into the work
force, the Federal Government began a campaign that included
magazine articles appealing to women; and
WHEREAS, On the cover of the May 29, 1943, edition of the
Saturday Evening Post, Norman Rockwell illustrated for America
