A RESOLUTION
Recognizing April 19, 2016, as "Junior Reserve Officer Training
Corps and National Defense Corps of Cadets Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC)
was established through the passage of the National Defense Act
of 1916; and
WHEREAS, The National Defense Corps of Cadets (NDCC) is an
identical program to JROTC except that high schools pay for the
costs of the program without financial assistance from the
United States Army; and
WHEREAS, JROTC and NDCC provide high school students with
leadership, character building and diversity skills; and
WHEREAS, Currently in the United States there are 314,000
cadets enrolled in JROTC programs dedicated to the curriculum of
personal responsibility, self-discipline and service to the

cadet's community; and
WHEREAS, High school students enrolled in JROTC and NDCC
learn from retired military personnel who combine the core
curriculum with military-style training to maintain the
professionalism and success of the programs; and
WHEREAS, In 2016, the JROTC and NDCC are celebrating 100
years of promoting social, emotional and physical health to high
school students throughout the United States; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize April
19, 2016, as "Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps and National
Defense Corps of Cadets Day" in Pennsylvania.
