A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the month of October 2015 as "Crime Prevention
Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The National Crime Prevention Council was founded in
1982 to manage the National Citizens' Crime Prevention Campaign
and to promote McGruff the Crime Dog and the Crime Prevention
Coalition of America; and
WHEREAS, The modern mission of the National Crime Prevention
Council is to help people keep themselves, their families and
their communities safe from crime through various programs,
publications and public service announcements; and
WHEREAS, The National Crime Prevention Council has, since
1984, annually designated October as Crime Prevention Month, the
official month for recognizing and celebrating the practice of
crime prevention; and

WHEREAS, The National Crime Prevention Council partners with
prevention organizations, justice advocates and other
professionals to build and sustain relationships with citizens
and public officials to promote a national crime prevention
agenda that will reduce the incidence of crimes, while helping
communities identify and address the underlying causes of
crimes; and
WHEREAS, This year's Crime Prevention Month marks the 35th
birthday of McGruff the Crime Dog, the trench-coat-wearing icon
of the National Crime Prevention Council, who has taught tens of
millions of Americans to "Take a Bite Out of Crime"; and
WHEREAS, Crime Prevention Month brings together government
agencies, civic groups, schools, businesses and youth
organizations in a joint effort to promote awareness of
important issues such as victimization, volunteerism and
creating healthier, safer communities; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
month of October 2015 as "Crime Prevention Month" in
Pennsylvania.
