A RESOLUTION
Designating the week of October 18 through 24, 2015, as "Freedom
from Workplace Bullies Week" in Pennsylvania to help
Commonwealth residents recognize workplace bullying, stop
bullying and gain the tools needed to appropriately deal with
workplace violence and bullying.
WHEREAS, The Commonwealth has an interest in promoting the
social and economic well-being of its residents, employees and
employers; and
WHEREAS, That well-being depends upon the existence of
healthy and productive employees working in safe and abuse-free
work environments; and
WHEREAS, Research has documented the stress-related
consequences for individuals caused by exposure to abusive work
environments; and
WHEREAS, Abusive work environments are costly for employers,
with consequences including reduced productivity, absenteeism,
turnover and injuries; and

WHEREAS, Between 30% and 50% of employees in the United
States, according to various studies, are subject to workplace
bullying sometime in their career; and
WHEREAS, It is important for the Commonwealth to be aware of
bullying and workplace violence and to encourage discussion of
the problem in communities, schools, workplaces and cyber
spaces; and
WHEREAS, The Commonwealth is united in its desire to educate
and encourage positive behaviors and to eliminate bullying; and
WHEREAS, Protection from abusive work environments should
apply to every worker and not be limited to legally protected
class status based only on race, color, familial status,
religious creed, ancestry, age, sex, national origin or
disability; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
week of October 18 through 24, 2015, as "Freedom from Workplace
Bullies Week" in Pennsylvania to help Commonwealth residents
recognize workplace bullying, stop bullying and gain the tools
needed to appropriately deal with workplace violence and
bullying; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commend the
Pennsylvania Healthy Workplace Advocates and the Workplace
Bullying Institute, which raise awareness of the impact of and
solutions for workplace bullying in Pennsylvania and the United
States; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives resolve our
unified commitment to the education and prevention of bullying
within our communities, schools, workplaces and cyber spaces, to
explore solutions to the problem and offer support in raising
awareness of bullying.
