A RESOLUTION
Urging the Congress of the United States to establish a national
day of recognition for the veterans of the Vietnam War and
designating the 50th anniversary of the Battle in the Ia
Drang Valley, November 14, 2015, as "Vietnam Veteran
Recognition Day" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The Ia Drang Valley was the first major conflict
between the United States Armed Forces and the North Vietnamese
during the Vietnam War; and
WHEREAS, The Battle of the Ia Drang Valley marked the
beginning of 10 divisive years of conflict for our nation; and
WHEREAS, Two hundred fifty American soldiers lost their lives
after four days of intense conflict; and
WHEREAS Two hundred forty-two Americans were wounded during

the Battle of the Ia Drang Valley; and
WHEREAS, More than 2 million men and women served their
country during the Vietnam War; and
WHEREAS, The men and women who served in Vietnam were the
greatest of their generation; and
WHEREAS, By the end of the war, 58,000 American soldiers made
the ultimate sacrifice for their country and for the freedom of
those they had never met; and
WHEREAS, More than 303,000 Americans were wounded and 75,000
were severely wounded from serving in the Vietnam War; and
WHEREAS, Two thousand American servicemen and servicewomen
still remain missing in action; and
WHEREAS, Thirty-eight states across the United States have
marked a day to recognize the bravery and accomplishments of our
nation's veterans for their service during the Vietnam War; and
WHEREAS, Eighteen of these states have passed resolutions
supporting a national day of recognition for veterans of the
Vietnam War; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives support and urge
the Congress of the United States to establish a national day to
recognize the veterans of the Vietnam War; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
50th anniversary of the Battle in the Ia Drang Valley, November
14, 2015, as "Vietnam Veteran Recognition Day" in Pennsylvania
to remember and honor the sacrifice of the brave men and women
who served in the Vietnam War.
