A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the 150th anniversary of the Salvation Army.
WHEREAS, The Salvation Army began in 1865 when London
minister William Booth left the pulpit and decided to take his
message to the streets where it would reach the poor, the
homeless and the destitute; and
WHEREAS, The Salvation Army's mission is to emphasize its
integrated ministry, reach and involve youth and children, stand
for and serve the marginalized and encourage innovation in
mission; and
WHEREAS, The Salvation Army operates 7,546 centers in
communities across the United States; and
WHEREAS, The services provided at the centers include food

distribution, disaster relief, rehabilitation, anti-human
trafficking efforts and a wealth of children's programs; and
WHEREAS, The Salvation Army's work is funded through kettle
donations, corporate contributions and the sale of goods donated
to Salvation Army family stores; and
WHEREAS, Eighty-two cents of every dollar the Salvation Army
spends supports its various missions across the country; and
WHEREAS, The Salvation Army is an international movement that
is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church with a
message based on the Bible and ministries motivated by the love
of God, preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ and meeting human
needs without discrimination; and
WHEREAS, The Salvation Army strives to be "doing the most
good" in its community efforts; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
150th anniversary of the Salvation Army.
