A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of April 2015 as "Community Service
Appreciation Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Community service and civic pride are core
principles of this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Each year, Pennsylvanians donate millions of dollars
and volunteer hours to foundations and nonprofit corporations in
order to better our communities and this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, The Department of State has registered 11,055
charities in this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, According to the Corporation for National and
Community Service, almost 70% of Pennsylvanians engage in
informal volunteering, such as helping a neighbor or assisting a
senior citizen; and
WHEREAS, In 2013, 2.76 million Pennsylvanians volunteered 342

million hours of service for a cause, foundation or nonprofit
corporation; and
WHEREAS, The average dollar value for one hour of a
volunteer's time in Pennsylvania is $21.94; and
WHEREAS, Annually, Pennsylvanians donate 32.1 volunteer hours
per capita; and
WHEREAS, Every volunteer in Pennsylvania deserves thanks and
recognition for their contributions; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
month of April 2015 as "Community Service Appreciation Month" in
Pennsylvania and congratulate all Pennsylvanians on their
participation in all forms of community service or volunteerism.
