A RESOLUTION
Designating March 2, 2015, as "Read Across America Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The residents of this Commonwealth stand firmly
committed to promoting reading as the catalyst for our students'
future academic success, their preparation for America's jobs of
the future and their ability to compete in a global economy; and
WHEREAS, Community involvement in public education and
reading activities is an important way to foster educational
growth among children; and
WHEREAS, The National Education Association's Read Across
America Day began in 1998 as the largest celebration of reading
ever held up to that point in our nation's history; and
WHEREAS, The National Education Association's Read Across
America Day continues to be the nation's largest reading event,

with millions of readers participating in a variety of reading
activities; and
WHEREAS, The works of Dr. Seuss, the pen name of Theodor
Seuss Geisel, continue to inspire many people of all ages to
love reading; and
WHEREAS, The National Education Association's Read Across
America program is held annually on Dr. Seuss' birthday to
promote reading and adult involvement in the education of our
children; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives, in support of
the National Education Association's Read Across America
program, designate March 2, 2015, as "Read Across America Day"
in Pennsylvania and call on the residents of this Commonwealth
to make an extra effort to encourage reading among children in
celebration of reading and Dr. Seuss.
