AN ACT
Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
Statutes, in rules of the road in general, further providing
for meeting or overtaking school bus; and providing for use
of bus for transportation of children for nonschool purposes.
The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. Section 3345(f) of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania
Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
§ 3345. Meeting or overtaking school bus.

(f) Operation for nonschool purposes.--When a school bus is
being operated upon a highway for purposes other than the actual
transportation of school children to or from school or in
connection with school activities, all markings indicating
"SCHOOL BUS" shall be covered or concealed. During such
operation, the flashing visual signals shall not be actuated,
except as set forth in section 3345.1 (relating to use of bus

for transportation of children for nonschool purposes).

Section 2. Title 75 is amended by adding a section to read:
§ 3345.1. Use of bus for transportation of children for
nonschool purposes.
(a) General rule.--Whenever a bus, which is operated for the
transportation of persons not for hire, and for which neither a
certificate of public convenience from the Pennsylvania Public
Utility Commission nor certification of approval from the
Interstate Commerce Commission is required, is being used upon a
highway or trafficway for the transportation of school-age
children exclusively and the bus is equipped with red signal
lights or a stop arm, or both, the driver of the bus may actuate
the signal lights or stop arm, or both, in the same manner set
forth in section 3345 (relating to meeting or overtaking school
bus) for the transportation of school children. The driver of a
vehicle approaching the bus shall have the same duties regarding
stopping, passing and overtaking as he does with respect to a
school bus carrying school children.
(b) Penalty.--A person who violates this section commits a
summary offense and shall, upon conviction, be sentenced to pay
a fine of $250.
Section 3. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
