A RESOLUTION

 

1Recognizing October 21, 2014, as "Biomedical Research Day" in
2Pennsylvania.

3WHEREAS, The biomedical research community in the United
4States and especially in this Commonwealth is recognized as the
5world leader in discovering knowledge that promotes health and
6the treatment of diseases; and

7WHEREAS, Biomedical research has helped increase the life
8span of people in the United States through the development of
9vaccines, antibiotics and anti-infective drugs; and

10WHEREAS, Biomedical research has contributed to the
11elimination of many epidemic diseases and in the United States
12biomedical research has helped to prevent numerous childhood
13killers; and

14WHEREAS, Biomedical researchers are working diligently toward
15cures for diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, arthritis, AIDS,
16cancer, diabetes, epilepsy, heart and lung diseases, mental
17illnesses, multiple sclerosis and countless other diseases that

1affect millions of people throughout the United States; and

2WHEREAS, Biomedical research has contributed to the health
3and well-being of animals through vaccines and has helped the
4prospects of endangered species by reducing diseases and
5promoting reproduction; and

6WHEREAS, Biomedical research offers the best hope for new
7breakthroughs in detecting and treating diseases in the future;
8therefore be it

9RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize October 21, 2014, as
10"Biomedical Research Day" in Pennsylvania.
