A RESOLUTION

 

1Recognizing the 100th anniversary of the unifying convention of
2the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States.

3WHEREAS, At a unifying convention on September 17, 1914,
4members of the American Veterans of Foreign Service and the
5National Society of the Army of the Philippines merged their
6organizations and voted to adopt the name Veterans of Foreign
7Wars of the United States; and

8WHEREAS, The unifying convention took place at the Schenley
9Hotel in Pittsburgh, which is now the William Pitt Union
10building on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh; and

11WHEREAS, With more than two million members, the Veterans of
12Foreign Wars of the United States remain active in communities
13at the international, national, state and local levels; and

14WHEREAS, The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States
15provides financial, social and emotional support to members of
16the armed forces, veterans and their dependents throughout the

1United States; and

2WHEREAS, The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States
3work on behalf of service members by calling for better health
4care and benefits for veterans; and

5WHEREAS, The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States
6annually donate more than 13 million volunteer hours of
7community service; and

8WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Department of the Veterans of 
9Foreign Wars of the United States lead the nation with more than
1090,000 combat veterans as members belonging to nearly 400 posts
11Statewide; therefore be it

12RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the 100th anniversary of
13the unifying convention of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the
14United States; and be it further

15RESOLVED, That the Senate commend the members of the Veterans
16of Foreign Wars of the United States for their courage and
17sacrifice in service to the United States; and be it further

18RESOLVED, That the Senate encourage all Pennsylvanians to
19express their appreciation for the honor, courage and bravery of
20United States veterans and for the service of the Veterans of
21Foreign Wars of the United States.
