A RESOLUTION

 

1Recognizing October 15, 2014, as "Pennsylvania Career
2Development Day" in Pennsylvania.

3WHEREAS, In today's economy, all students must graduate high
4school well informed of the vast array of career choices
5available to them and knowing how to pursue their aspirations in
6order to successfully participate in Pennsylvania's work force;
7and

8WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Department of Education has adopted
9Career Education and Work Standards that require all high school
10graduates to demonstrate their competency in the areas of career
11awareness and preparation, career acquisition, career retention
12and advancement and entrepreneurship as a requirement for
13graduation; and

14WHEREAS, Research predicts that by 2020, about 65% of all
15jobs in the nation will require some postsecondary education;
16and

17WHEREAS, Jobs that require high levels of education and

1skills pay higher wages than jobs that require little education
2and few skills; and

3WHEREAS, Earnings increase significantly as a worker's degree
4of education rises; and

5WHEREAS, Ninety percent of new jobs in growing industries
6with high wages will require some postsecondary education; and

7WHEREAS, Students who graduate from high school having
8experienced meaningful career planning and development have the
9knowledge, skills and attitudes sought by employers, are
10qualified for high-paying, in-demand jobs and are better
11prepared to contribute to a stable, world class work force for
12Pennsylvania; and

13WHEREAS, The Capital Region Partnership for Career
14Development collaborates with many businesses, organizations and
15State agencies to provide students with career exploration
16experiences, programs and resources that help them become
17knowledgeable about traditional, nontraditional and emerging
18postsecondary educational opportunities and career paths; and

19WHEREAS, Schools and educators need support from the Capital
20Region Partnership for Career Development and other
21organizations to maintain adequate and effective career
22development programs, as well as support for employer networking
23and teacher training to expand their knowledge of evolving
24career opportunities for students; and

25WHEREAS, The Capital Region Partnership for Career
26Development recognizes the critical need for schools, employers,
27postsecondary institutions and various community and government
28agencies to collaborate on work force development to ensure
29career success for the youth of Pennsylvania; therefore be it

30RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize October 15, 2014, as

1"Pennsylvania Career Development Day" in Pennsylvania.
