A RESOLUTION

 

1Designating the week of September 14 through 20, 2014, as
2"InfantSEE Week" in Pennsylvania.

3WHEREAS, Early detection of vision problems is the best way
4to treat and prevent vision impairment; and

5WHEREAS, Member optometrists of the American Optometric
6Association and the Vision Care Institute of Johnson & Johnson
7Vision Care, Inc., have partnered to create "InfantSEE," a
8public health program to provide a one-time, no-cost eye
9assessment for infants who are six to twelve months old; and

10WHEREAS, Undetected vision problems can lead to permanent
11vision impairment, contribute to a decrease in a child's quality
12of life and may lead to developmental and behavioral
13difficulties which impede classroom learning as well as increase
14the costs to society; and

15WHEREAS, Even if no eye or vision problems are apparent, the
16American Optometric Association recommends scheduling a baby's
17first eye assessment at six months of age; and

1WHEREAS, One in ten children are at risk from undiagnosed eye
2and vision problems and one in 30 children will be affected by
3amblyopia, a leading cause of vision loss in people younger than
445 years of age; therefore be it

5RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the week of September 14
6through 20, 2014, as "InfantSEE Week" in Pennsylvania.
