A RESOLUTION

 

1Recognizing 2014 as the "Year of the Veteran" in Pennsylvania.

2WHEREAS, Philadelphia is the birthplace of the United States
3Army, United States Navy and United States Marine Corps,
4establishing a link between Pennsylvania and those who have
5served our country dating back to pre-Revolutionary War times;
6and

7WHEREAS, Veterans from past wars and peace time, as well as
8those currently returning to this Commonwealth from overseas
9military duty, are part of the foundation of our community
10having served our country by putting themselves in harm's way
11and, in some cases, making the ultimate sacrifice in order to
12protect us and preserve our liberties; and

13WHEREAS, There are nearly 1 million veterans living in this
14Commonwealth with service spanning World War II until the
15present, men and women, of all races, religions, ethnicities,

1gender-identifications and physical abilities; and

2WHEREAS, A new generation of veterans, including many female
3veterans, are returning from service and choosing to live, work
4and further their educations in this Commonwealth; and

5WHEREAS, Many veterans face challenges in living to their
6fullest potential because of the injuries, both mental and
7physical, suffered during their service; and

8WHEREAS, Veterans offer this Commonwealth a talented and
9experienced pool of leaders, workers and neighbors; therefore be
10it

11RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize 2014 as the "Year of the
12Veteran" in Pennsylvania.
